"This is a dangerous power grab,” NDP calls to withdraw Bill 5

It’s time to withdraw Bill 5, go back to the drawing board, and do this right.

QUEEN’S PARK – Marit Stiles, Leader of the Official Opposition NDP, is calling on the Ford government to withdraw the controversial Bill 5, which seeks to give the government a blank cheque to exempt any project or area from laws and regulations.

“The Bill’s ‘special economic zones’ are just a cheat code for this government to do whatever they want, wherever they want,” said Stiles. “No consent. No consultations. No laws – this is the playbook that this government is selling.”

“Instead of listening to First Nations leaders, experts, scientists, and building public consensus to streamline project approvals, the Premier has reached for a sledgehammer once again – and that could undermine Ontario’s economic future. This isn’t about protecting Ontario; this is about a shameless, unchecked power grab.”

“Things have gone too far in the wrong direction. It’s time to do the right thing, withdraw Bill 5, and go back to the drawing board.”

To help Ontarians push back against Bill 5’s overreach, the Ontario NDP launched an online campaign that allows people to email their MPPs directly. More than 4,700 emails have been sent so far.
